Default Holy crap!

I finally started the head gasket replacement on the recently aquired 944. I did the tear down yesterday. First of all, I'm amazed by how clean everything is. This morning I was cleaning and checking everything under the hood before putting it all back together. The gasket looked as though it was recently changed. Then I saw something that just floored me. When the head was put back on the last time, a small 1/8" vacuum line was stuck under it. The installer never saw it and torqued on the head. No wonder it didn't seal up very well. The head is a great shape, it looks like they had a valve job done.

I'll be putting it back together in the next couple days. I'll give a follow up.

Holy crap indeed.

Wow - how sloppy can you get? That boggles my little brain, that someone would miss the as-basic-as-breathing step of cleaning and checking both head and gasket for foreign ojects.

Thankfully your piece of crap wasn't metal.
