Default Tie Rod Question

Forgive my certain misnomers:

While I was replacing my wheel bearing today, I did an inspection of my suspension for any upcoming work (including my ball joint kit) and did notice some looseness on the inner ball joint (?) (under steering rack boot) of the DS tie rod (early manual rack). The outer tie rod end is tight. I think I might have replaced those (outer tie rod ends) but have forgotten if I did.

Anyway, my question is should I just replace the inner rod end or the entire TR assembly? Also, any suggestions about where to buy the portion or the whole assembly would be appreciated. Thanks. Michael

If you get new tie rods, they come with the outer joint.

If the inner is good, then you can just buy the outer ones - they are less than $20.00 - if the inner is bad, you have to replace the whole thing.

I just went through this.........

Thanks Daniel. Guess I need to buy a whole rack. I saw 944online had them for like 120. Any other suggestions as to where to buy? Thanks.

If you know where I can get a whole manual rack for $120 - I will buy 5!

Yeah, early manual tie rods are not nearly as expensive as late ones - good idea just to replace both!

A whole rack? You mean a tie rod assembly?

I meant a whole tie rod assembly (1) for my early; not a whole rack.

Is alignment necessary after tie rod replacement?
