Default Does anyone sell an A/C Compressor rebuild kit?

My compressor has had a small oil leak for a couple months, well it really let loose this morning. So it's either rebuild it or replace it. Anyone know a source for a rebuild kit for the Nippondenso in an '87?

You can get good rebuilt units cheap on ebay all day...on that note, there must be rebuild kits out there somewhere....else no rebuilt units(though I have a theory here, got any silver paint
If going rebuilt get the drier and some new o rings and convert to R134.(though had some issues with the convertor adapters for the low side..)

Plenty of good write-ups here.

I got a rebuilt unit on ebay for $200, a drier with siteglass for $10(was slightly smaller than original but I modified the mounting bracket) vacuumed then filled. (low pressure switch important here) compressor had some stripped threads at the back mount but it all worked out in the end. Ice cold AC.

Yea I guess my concern was for just how well 'rebuilt' they are. But I've had no luck finding a kit, so I'll start shopping for a rebuilt. I read the thousand or so entries on R12 vs R134....confusing to say the least. Although being in New Hampshire means I don't need my A/C operating at 100%!

Thanks,

Steve

Fully rebuilt units with clutch are cheaper than purchasing just a brand new clutch assembly. So worth every penny...and you don't have to go to autozone to free rent the pulley removal tool.

Here let me simplify ac conversion.
Take car and get system evacuated(probably already done by leak)
If compressor is bad, replace.
If compressor is good remove.(don't tip over because we want to keep what oil is in there)-if you are worrying about correct oil percentage then you are moving on the the pro method.
Replace all o rings on compressor and replace drier unit.(and o rings here to)
Now vacuum out system.(if you have a compressor then get a cheapo harbor freight unit-loud and runs the whole time but good enough) If not take it somewhere and get it sucked down for at least 45 minutes.
Now go buy you a cheapo conversion kit from autozone or walmart and follow the directions. Search for Low Pressure switch and my username for info on getting started.

Is this the pro method...no. What are the chances of it working and being fine...90%

I would not worry too much about the expansion valve and if you are worried about that, then you have chosen the next level of installation.

After having just done the clutch this sounds like childs play!! 8^)

Thanks...I'll eyeball the compressors on eBay and get to work on it before it gets warm!!

Cheers,

Okay, so I've been researching my options. Since my existing compressor is toast I've decided to convert to r134. So I've ordered the vacuum pump and gages/manifold for r134 and will pick up a r134 conversion kit. Now what to do with the compressor? I've found rebuilts in the $200-250 range, but if I get a rebuilt denso unit does it come loaded with the wrong oil for r134?

Just check with whoever you end up getting the compressor from.
They will be able to answer your questions.
Most will come with just barely enough lube to keep the parts slightly wet.
Most conversion kits give you a can that has the oil and R134 mixed in.
This can goes in first then the R134 can to top it off.
Like I said this is not the pro route but it works.

Thanks...I ordered a vacuum pump and gages from Harbor, since I have to convert my kid's 190e as well. So I guess I'm going "semi-pro" with this! I'll pour through all the posts to try to get up to snuff on doing this...A/C is the one and only area on the car I haven't messed with.

I have a mystery compressor; I don't know if it's good or bad. If you have the time to try it out and you are interested, pay shipping costs, if it doen't work toss it in the trash, if it works, pay me whatever you think it's worth. Let me know if you're interested.

Thanks Kevin, I think I'll go the route of a rebuild or rebuild my own. Time is at a premium for me between work and 3 kids!

I found a site that sells rebuild kits (ACSOURCE.COM)...but they don't list kits for the Denso 10P15E....but they do list them for a 10P15C. I've asked them if they are the same.

I'm still waiting on an answer if the gasket and seal kits for a 10P15C can be used on our 10P15E compressor. I believe the 10P15E was used on all the late 944's...
