Default MAXhpkit 89 S2 Chip Install Results...

First off, let me say that Russell was a great help. I have an 89 S2, with a 91 motor. So we were not sure which chip I would need (different S2 chips for some model years) Russell shipped me the one for the 89-90 cars and if this one did not work (check engine light came on) then he would simply ship me another chip. So customer service wise I cannot say enough about him. Of course most here on this board already know this.

I really wish I had some dyno charts for everyone but I will just post my initial driving impression.

At start up the car idled at about 150RPM (just a tad over 1K) or so more than before. No big deal. As I waited for the car to warm up I pushed the throttle a bit and response was definitely quicker than before. After I let the car warm up for about five minutes I took it for spin around the 'hood. It absolutely pulls harder from the lower RPM's. On the old chip I would not feel a decent pull until after 4K RPM's. No I am getting a stronger pull at about 2.5K or so. Also, there is still good power up until 5K.

I only made about two runs up and down the block and my initial impression is WOW! I did not think that a $150 (now $175) investment could make such a huge difference. I cannot wait to really give the car a work out. I am interested to see how much power I can make up through the top of the RPM range.

If you have a stock chip in your car and are on the fence about these chips... do not be! What a great upgrade and the price is right. Thanks Russell and to everyone on the board who helped me out. I'm happy!

Thanks for the review Cory. I was running a Autothority Clone chip in my car but I may have to try this one out and see if I can get better results.

I had a Autothority chip in my 89 S2, then I did the beta testing for Russ on this chip. The early ones were as good or better, but the final version is SOOO much better! I dumped the Autothority one and will NEVER go back!

P.S. Russ, the chip was AWESOME at Heartland Park-Topeka last weekend!!

We need dyno charts.

Without them it's all speculation.

I did many dyno runs on the early versions of the chips, ending with a 7hp & 8 lb-ft gain at the wheels on version 5. I haven't run version 6 yet. Dyno runs do not convey the great improvement at partial throttle though.

Hey James!

Here it is track season again and I still have a chunk of steel on four shot wheels sitting in my driveway! I am beginning to doubt I'm going to have a racecar this year. Just too much going on. I still need to get your box to you with the new chip code, think we can get another dyno run?

Regards,
Russell
