I've seen some 911 targas advertised around the price of a nice S2. It's a tempting goal, but the market for 911s makes me think that a $10k car is slightly better than a basketcase.

I would sacrifice the somewhat ugly targa roof to have an affordable, late 70s/early 80s 911. The 944 is a great car, but the 911 is just hardcore.

I still think the 87-89 930 slantnose is one of the best looking cars ever designed. I will buy one one day along with a ferrari 328.

Dang.. where did those 10 years go??? LOL. Let's see.. my 911t was with mech. fuel injection.. was designated 1/2 year..so was that 73.5?
My SC had (I think) a 3.0 or 3.2 and although far superior to the T, it was no rocket.

It's a bitch getting old.

Sure it was a T? Pretty sure the T's were carb'ed and the E's were the MFI... then again maybe being it a late T it was MFI. I don't know my longhoods as well as a I should. Mine's an SC, no rocket, but compared my 944 it is. They are different, both fun, but different. As much as I hate on the 944 when wrenching, I love driving it.

That 89 C4 at 250hp was a 3.6L.

Yep. At least THAT I'm sure of. LOL. I just looked at my pics and compared them to ebay listings. 1973.5.. fuel injection. The SC was an 83.

Does this mean you're going to tell my wife... this " " isn't 9 inches?

Huge +1, Except make the 328 a 512TR.

A current carrera is 325hp at the crank, about 276 at the wheels. That's chips, exhaust, testpipe and 18psi for any 951.

A "heavily" modded 951 is 350+hp at the wheels in my book. A Carrera S is only 300 at the wheels.

What Carrera are you talking about?

A 512TR is a neat car though I never liked the door "fins". I was really bored last week, thought about bidding on some 328s, and ran across a 550 advertised 214 mph achieved top speed on a public highway for $129k buy it now http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Ferra...QQcmdZViewItem. I called 2 of my friends and joked around about a 3 way time share ferrari.

This one looks nice but it went a bit higher than usual http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...7590&rd=1&rd=1.

A heavily modded 951 is 400+hp at the wheels to me. Lightly modded is 250-300 hp at the wheels and medium modded is 300-400 hp. Completely arbitrary and subjective rating system though anything over 400 hp at the wheel for a street legal car is a little ridiculous in my book because most people wouldn't know what to do with usable 400hp.

If this was an article in Excellence, the 911 would have won.

The carrera has 50% more hp so acceleration is a no brainer. Handling - well, not a fair comparison since very few people actually know how to drive a 911.

A heavily modified 944 turbo should put ~450hp to the wheels.
The newest Carrera falls short by maybe as much as 160hp.
Even a mildly modified 944 turbo (I would call my car mildly modified) would be quicker in many cases.

Dude - you should have seen what I did to a stock 997 Carrera S - it was ugly - on PUMP gas too.

We won't talk about the 997 GT3 over by Fahrenbacher/Lowles, either - That guy just gave up.
