Default Alternator Question

The alt gauge on my 87 951 is starting to give various readings, 12 - 13.5 volts. The PO says it's getting ready to give me walking papers. Could this possibly be just the voltage regulator? PET shows the same part # for all. I have a new stock one and one of Icesharks adjustables that I was getting ready to install any way when I put my light kit on.

running/not running?

the gage isn't terribly accurate so you need to use a decent dvm in both measurements and compare with the vm in the car.

i'd say you need some pretty hi voltage to run the kit, it's a big load.
