Default It's ALIVE!

So we got the fuel pump off my 924S today, tested it out, checked the fuel lines, checked the wiring. Turns out the PO, after most likely having a dead relay, wired up the fuel pump to a switch in the centre console, but wired it up backwards. The pump was pumping the fuel back into the tank, not into the feed line. Switched the wires around, turned on the switch, fired right up first time. Now I'm just waiting for the battery to charge a bit, then I'm going to take her out in the mountain roads for 10 minutes, make sure everything is as it should be.

SHE LIVES!

Oh, one small request, could somebody snap me a photo of the stock wiring for the stereo? I need to do a bit of digging in the console before I can put anything in there to replace the missing stereo. It'd help a lot if I had a picture to work from.

Mavfan, it was pumping backwards. We took the pump right off the car, put one end in a can of juice, then wired straight to the contacts on top. With the pump wired one way, it was blowing air down into the fuel, wired the other way, we had a beautiful petroleum fountain.

Bonestock, my pictures are up at http://www.redmund.net/924 posted them last weekend when I first picked up the car. It still needs to be cleaned and polished properly, but she's running now, that's what's most important.

If I'm thinking right, it's just a little motor and an impeller, so reversing polarity on the motor would have it running backwards, right?

Wow, I just got back from taking my car out for the first time. Bloody hell, it's fantastic. Just the right amount of power for these horrible Irish roads (ahem). Sticks well, does what you want it to do, when you tell it. Goes where you point it. I love it. Rides better than my Clio too on the nutball mountain roads. Now to put the wiring back the way it should be and tidy it all up.

Count one happy happy new Porsche owner

she was originally imported from the uk and registered in waterford, but i picked her up in wexford. she was half way between new ross and enniscorthy. guy had a non runner at the time, so i got it for 2k. with another few hours work, this car could sell here for an easy 6k. not that i'm going to do such a thing, as this is gonna be my baby. so much fun :O!

haha, thanks buddy. "new" indeed. still, to be honest, she was in fantastic mechanical condition, save for the PO's silliness with the fuel pump. outside, a good t-cut and polish and she'll be almost perfect. i've got a new set of decals on the way soon, along with some lenses, relays, and a new set of belts. the rad is coming out to be flushed also, since the PO also put tap water in the tank. moron. even so, she runs sweet and strong, sticks like glue, and is generally a whole lot of fun. i love it! now, time to sign off, i'm drunk off my *** :P
