Unfortunatly to remove the bolt while the housing is still in the car, I'd have to stick the head and then the housing back on, so that is a little to much stepping backwards for me. I think I'll try strapping it down to some of the built-in shelving in the garage and see if that would be stable enough to get this stupid thing out.

If you want the bolt off in less than 5 minutes, get a power grinder and just destroy the bolt head. It's pretty fun!

I think I'm just going to drill the bolt out because its pissing me off so much.

You feel like making some replacement ones sharkey?

Front seal kits should come with a new bolt. If yours did not, you can order it from any online parts store, or any porsche parts supplier.

I tried using a allen bolt in place of the OE cheesehead bolt, but I found out allen bolt heads are too tall. If Dan could make a superhard bolt with just a allen head, that would be Fawesome!

If you're gonna drill it, make sure you have a very sharp (i.e. expensive) drill bit. Normal bits will only scratch it.

I've got some titanium? drill bits out in the garage because of some past metal cutting projects (the camera mount bar), so I should be fine on that front. Only issue would be if they are to large or small.

I haven't ordered a new bolt yet, so if I do end up drilling it out and needing one I'll make sure to get one with the seals (unless that stuff is already in my hg/reseal kit).

What size drill bit did you guys use to drill out the bolt? I don't want to go too big a screw up the cam.

thanks,

I forget the drill size, but if you go slow and step-up a small amount at a time - you will get to the point where the head just pops off without drilling into the shaft of the bolt.

GO SLOW - as in RPM

Use coolant on the drill bit - motor oil will work fine

Don't be greedy with the drill size - work your way up gradually

It's that simple, just take your time!
