Default AC troubleshooting

Hello!

My AC compressor seized up last summer, and I replaced the compressor a few months ago. I was unable to get it to kick on normally so I assumed it was because filling it in sub-freezing temperatures made it hard to get freon in and so I just shelved it for the time being.

Today I decided to get everything going again. Unfortunately, I still can't get the compressor to kick on with the HVAC controls. If I run a jumper wire to the compressor it turns on and the AC works as it should.

Thoughts?

I'd like to bypass the pressure switch just to see if that's where my problem is but I don't know where it is. But that may not be the best course of action.

Replacing the compressor turned out to be more of a problem than it should have been so the system didn't have a vacuum for about 2-3 months during the process. But the car wasn't driven much during that time and stayed in teh garage so I don't know how much of an issue humidity could be.

Any help would be... helpful!

Thanks,
BB.

Pressure switch should be located behind the driver's side headlight near the headlight.

I figured it was one of those. Unfortunately, there are two switches there. Is it the verticle one with the green (up high) or the horizontal one with the black connectors (down low)?

Thanks,
BB.

Down low w/black connectors... and by the way, I meant to say near the receiver not the headlight twice! ... jeez. ROFL. Sorry!

No worries!

Anyway, I figured out the problem... it got unplugged. After that, it was all working.

And then I stopped for dinner.

Unfortunately, now I have another problem. It's just not working again and this time I don't seem to be getting any power to it. Even the little indicator won't light up and the leads aren't getting any juice.

Thoughts?

check to make sure all plugs are intact and that the leads on the switch are clean. Secondly, with the car running and with the switch on for AC, lightly tap the AC clutch square on the face to see if it engages. Be careful and do this from underneath the car.

What indicator are you referencing?

I'm talking about the little light on the AC button. It's almost like I blew a fuse somewhere but the only AC fuse in the fusebox is still good. All of the other lights on the HVAC panel are working.

I checked the wiring at the pressure switch, the lead going to the compressor and even power going to the relay (I only found one terminal that ever had any power, regardless of whether or not the AC was one).

No, bad eyesight.

After throwing in the towel and taking a hot shower I decided to double-check the fuses. Guess what was blown.

This is what happens when I try and fix the car without beer. Seriously. Things never go well without beer!

Thanks for your help!

That's one of the problems I'm trying to tackle so I read this thread. I went out to look at my pressure switches in the pic above and one of mine was disconnected (actually the wires were broke off). I reconnected them, but nothing. So (as in the thread) I started pulling all the fuses and... found one burned out. I replaced it.... and.....

my clock works now!!!

ac still doesn't.

I just bought the car last week:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...5488&rd=1&rd=1

and when I picked it up, NOTHING on the interior worked. After one week and crap out of my garage, I now have working:
Electric windows
Electric roof
Electric door locks
Rear hatch opens
Door locks work with key, and doors actually open
Passenger seat now able to move fwd/back
Electric Driver's seat
... AND CLOCK.. weeeee.

I've also put in some temporary seat covers and steering wheel cover. Re-covered the console arm rest which I found in the rear stowage compartment. oh, I also stripped that buggered fender and repainted it. (5 foot job)

It's the little things in life that one gets the most joy out of.
