I have a 1986 944 n/a, and the struts are really starting to go. I figured that if I was going to replace them, I may as well do struts and shocks, and replace them with something nicer than OEM. I was thinking something like these http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/KYB-G...QQcmdZViewItem
for the front. Anyone have any experience, any brands they'd reccomend?
(I'm on a budget, so the more inexpensive the better)
Thanks alot

Cheaper to get them from here: http://www.ajusa.com/cgi-bin/stores/...4afcc08d0a931f
I've heard good reviews for what they are. They aren't Koni's, but are still better than worn out stock ones.

If your interested, i have a set of early offset Boge struts with about 8k miles on them. They are about 4 years old. You can have them for really cheap if you want them.. i just need to get rid of them! Includes upper strut mount, spring...etc. Its complete and ready to bolt on.
So if you want really cheap, these are your ticket. Otherwise just get the Koni's or Bilstien's.

I had the KYB's on the 83 and had no problems at all. $37/ea is hard to beat. If you have an 86 don't buy the complete front strut, just buy the inserts, for the threaded cap tubes. You can replace even them without removing the strut, compressing the spring, or effecting alignment. Both fronts took me all of 1 hour total.

the KYBs are decent if you want a cheap stock replacement. Personally I use bilstein shocks in every car I own. The cost a bit more, but they perform better than konis, and last loniger than any shock Ive ever used. I have a set on my VW that has ~50k on them with lots of hard track driving and they feel just like they did when new.

KYB's are fine for street driven cars on a budget. Koni's are better for those that are looking for track performance, but still have to keep costs in check. Beyond this is an array of proper competition dampers. Great if you are racing, but they can be horribly expensive.
Bilsteins are nice option as well and compareable to the Koni's. If you ask about Koni vs Bilstein you will see a long debate about which is better with little resolution. In they end they are close.
My recommedation is for a budget street NA get the KYB's. While not ideal they are plenty good and the price is right. Hey get an entire set of KYB's for the price of 1 Koni.
