I took my bumper off to mount a tow hook and saw it had seen better days (bent and the light mounts were gone). I picked up another w/ pads and lights AND with all the aluminum welds in tact.

But one side had a flappy rubber gasket thing. Mine didn't have it, but this one had 2 small phillips heads and 2 7mm bolts.

If it wasn't for the pads covering the light bracket, I'd grind down the rivets, fill the holes and go smooth.

 

Sounds like you got a bumper from a 924/924S. The black gasket you are describing just fills in a gap between the bumper and the fender.

 

The early '86 944s also had that rubber gasket thing...I always take them off and toss them.

 

My 85/1 also had this. I've never checked on my mom's 84.

 

It could be an early bumper- There all the same.
I just picked up the one that had all the parts and brackets... and that flappy thing.
