Default How do these clips/clamps work?

Hi guys. I'm new to the forum, but have been lurking for a while. I'd like to know how to use these clamps properly. I tried prying on them with a screwdriver with no luck. They are the clamps used on several hoses under the hood, for example on the idle stabilizer. I tried to post a picture, but it wouldn't let me.

Thanks!

You need a special tool for those band clamps.

It's like a pair of pliers. Most people just replace them with regular hose clamps.

Van's got it, cut them off or pry the ends off with a screw driver. The hardest thing was trying to find small diameter clamps like that locally.

Those things are the devil. There are two on the hydraulic hose to the clutch... what a PITA.

As Jon said I got rid of every one of those things I touched. Home Depot stocks some clamps in bulk That are close but the hoses always seem to be right on the edge of their adjustment range.

To put them back on in a 'pinch' (pun intended) you can put the edge of a flathead screwdriver on each side and squeeze with channel locks. Worked pretty well.

Jeez, I've dealt with crummy stock clamps on every vehicle I've owned. Do regular clamps really cost a factory that much?
