Default Repacing steering column assembly question

I was about to replace both my ignition switch and lock cylinder on the 86 to hopefully solve a hot starting problem. The FSM shows that you need to drill out the breakaway screws to replace the switch. I have a complete steering column tube with new switch and lock to match the rest on the car. Can I just pull and swap the whole assembly by just removing the two lower mounting screws and circlip at the top bearing? I have limited time today and don't want to have to drill anything out if I can get away with it. Another odd thing is the parts all came off an 89 944. The ignition switch in the housing has a part number of 928.613.017.01 and every place I look up shows this part required to be a 964.613.012.00 for both the 85.5+ 944's and all 928's 79-95. Anyway, here's what I want to replace as a unit:

Thanks for any help...my time is running out and I need the car tomorrow but can still drive it the way it is.

I looked at the diagram in the PET and it does look like you can do it that way. BTW, how did you link a hot start problem with the ignition switch?

I've had the hot-start problem off and on for about 2 years now. Sometimes it will be just fine. When the car idles in traffic or I'm hard on the boost the car will not turn over at all. The dash lights will come on but all I can hear is the solenoid buzzing. The starter was replaced and I had the same problem. I've put a heat blanket on the starter, heat shields are in place, new DME relay, new positive cable and terminals, the grounds are clean and tight, and I've wrapped the headers and X-over with Thermo-Tec header wrap. All that is left is the ignition switch/key assembly and the small wire between the switch and solenoid and starter to alternator. I need to replace the key anyway if I want matching keys. I figure the resistance in the wire between the switch and starter goes high resistance when it gets heat soaked. I know it's not the starter as I tried 2 good ones just to make sure. If it doesn't work at least my keys will all match.

Nice work on the lock cylinders, do you have the handles on yet?

Thanks Steve. Not on the car yet. Ran out of time today and I'll be out of town next week so maybe next weekend.
