Default Keep Popping AC/heater fuse

My car keeps popping the heater/ac fuse which does not allow me to change the temp on the heater/ac control. The fan still works fine. Any ideas on what could be causing the fuse to pop? It will last a while then just pops every once in a while...

This has eventually happened to all of my 944's. From what I have read and been told I think its the clutch on the compressor gets worn out and starts drawing too much current. DO NOT put a larger fuse in, it will work for a while and then start blowing that fuse until you finally fry your control panel.

Why would the clutch on the compressor be attached to the vent heat control **** if the AC isn't even engaged?

Mine use to pop whenever i turned on the defroster or AC for the reason potent described. If it's popping when you're just changing the heat then something else is wrong though....not sure what else it could be though.
