Trainers, or workshop manual? I will check mine when I get home.

If the cross hatch is not present in the cylinder or glazed over, you will have ring seating issues.

If it is present, that re ringing can work.

Here is some interesting reading....

If i understood it correctly the new 997 doesnt even have a cross hatch pattern. And yes it was a trainer, somone who has been in the field, i can look it up tomorrow on the Tech site for manual steps.

That would be great!
Although the link I posted talked more about the replacement of the liner it included the multistep prep process that I thought would be interesting reading for some. A "cross hatch" is not nessesary, but some form of "roughness" is needed. It usually is measured with a RA meter or gauge.

Mark, I am in a town called Langley BC, part of the Greater Vancouver Regional District and about 8 miles from the US border!

Here is some more info I had from away back.

This issue comes up all time with 911 rebuilding (which I do frequently). It is pretty interesting stuff. The more we can here from the folks in the industry the better, books and tech literature are one thing, but real life experience is another!

I have rebuilt over 30 stock bore engines and another 40 or so bored and honed engines. Never a problem with seating in reringed stock bores. All engines acheived less than 2% leakdown.
