Really? I thought it was a steal. I think I forgot to mention it has 993 17" wheels, like in the sig 2 posts up. (At least, 3 of them. I don't know if that steelie is replacing a broken 4th wheel, or just saving the good tire from fender rub.)

I'm still waiting for the guy to reply again...

Hard to say, at first glance I'd say no damage but after looking I dunno. Might as well get a PPI.

I payed 750 for my S and the front nose was bent to the side and the headlights wouldnt go up, and it had a dented fender in the rear. You could probably get him down to 1000.

It looks like the door post is bent in below the windshield and I believe thats a vertical crack in the windshield.

I'd have a body shop print out an estimate...my initial reaction was that you almost certainly have frame damage, but on closer inspection of the picture, it looks like the fender may have warped around the body rather than pushiing in and deforming hte frame rail. Tough to say

I've sent the dude a few emails and he's only gotten back to me once, with the above picture and 2 other poorly taken interior pics. I'll keep you guys posted with what I find out.

That guy has been trying to sell that car for more than 6 months as far as I know. In his ad, he doesn't show the damaged side and I think its funny how he sends you that picture with other poorly taken pictures.

6 months? Hmm... there must be more to it then. How can a 944S for $1200 not sell in 6 months...

The pics in the ad were pathetic. These are the other 2 pics he sent me:

The guy finally emailed me back. He was surprised I was still interested in the car after seeing the pic of damaged side. Also, he told me he'd lower the price to $1000. I didn't even try haggling yet!! Obviously this guy has had a lot of trouble selling the car, and really wants to get it gone. I'll try talking him down a bit more, and when he says no, I'll wave the cash in his face, then start walking away.

I can't help but be suspicious. But I keep telling myself that even if the car ends up being more trouble than I thought, I could always part it out and make my money back. Anyway I'll be seeing it tomorrow or Saturday, so I'll let y'all know.

Well, a 944S is more problematic than the 8v ones due to the expense and availability of parts for the engine and trans. Its why I opt for a turbo instead of S or S2. I believe he only has 3 wheels and one seat. I have seen 944S needing water pump go for less than $2500 around here so thats probably why the guy has problems selling it.

Anyways, a seller who shows all the problem spots in pictures instead of a seller showing the "good side" and none of the damage tells me something about the mentality of the person. It makes me wonder how desperate and non disclosing he will be in terms of other non visible problems with the car.

In the end, I am able and willing to fix any problems it has. Except if it has a bad engine - I don't want to put up with a rebuild, but I will be doing "the usual" stuff like belts, wp, seals, chain, filters, tune up. I also don't want to deal with body/paint. The whole idea is getting a car with good Zermatt Silver paint.

If the tranny ever blows, I'll replace it with a 944 tranny. If the engine ever blows, I'll replace it with a 944 engine unless I can find the 944S parts. I don't mind a little bastardizing here and there.

All I really care about is a good Zermatt Silver body. And yes, I saw the smashed fender! The rest of the body looked decent and the paint looks good (from 5 feet away, anyway). If I could find another Zermatt 944 I might go for that instead. I'm not in a hurry or anything, but I know they're kinda hard to find, and this one is worth a look at least.
