Default Best 944 service manual?

I just purchased an 87 944S and am looking for recommendations on the most comprehensive and useful service manual(s). I apologize if this question has been asked before, but I am new to the group, and was unable to find a recent similar post.

Thanks for your help.

Ebay: Find the Porsche workshop manuals. Usually 150-200 will pick you up the entire set in hardcopy.

And you can find them for less, perhaps even free, on PDF.

But, without a doubt, the factory manuals are the way to go.

Yea the factory manuals are the best way to go. The Haynes 944 manual is a decent introduction if you've never worked on one of these before ($20) but it doesn't have anything specific to the 4 valve heads.

I keep the Haynes in the car. You can still get it at almost any pep boys for only $15. I figure that it's better than nothing if I ever get stranded.

For true reference use, you can't beat a pdf version of the factory manuals. Poke around and you will find several sources for this. I find it much easier to have them on my laptop than to actually have all of the binders hanging around. There's not much between the factory and Haynes manuals (i.e., there was never a Bentley manual for the 944). You should, however, check out http://www.clarks-garage.com/.

Yes, the PDF files work fine in a pinch, but I have both, and I would spend the money on the hardcopies again in a heartbeat. The PDF files are big, slow, and god help you when you get to troubleshooting the electrics! The hardcopies are nice for that, as the pages fold out and you aren't trying to read skematics on 4 different pages

Due to "hosting problems" the manuals are not available there anymore.

I wouldn't be surprised if several lawyers were involved in the "hosting problems".

Thank goodness for the high-speed laser printer at the office!
