Default early vs. late 944?

im interested in buying a 944 and i was wondering if i should only be looking for later car (after 1985.5). were there problems solved with the later car or are they the same, except for the dash?

They were pretty much the same besides the dash, I got the late car because the interior is much sharper imo, prob because Audi designed it. There may be some subtle differences in the models, but Ill let others chime in for that.

A-arms on late were aluminum. Water pump at a later point was upgraded. Tranny was upgraded. Dash (you know that part). Engine managment was upgraded.
Someone help me out here.....

Unless you absolutely have to have the 23mm offset wheels of the early interior, the rule is to buy the newest example that you can afford.

Buy the best example you can buy. But don't, buy all means DON"T be in a rush, "Good things come to those who wait."

Budget wise, an early might be better. The cheaper 944 you buy will mean the more it costs to fix in the long run.

In this instance (944's) The year, early or late does not matter. The maint. and up keep are really what dictates the cost or price. Pay now or pay later are the rules of thumb.

$2500... maybe you shouldn't buy a 944. It can get dicey at that price range.

Don't get me wrong, they're awesome cars, but if you get one at that price range it's going to need anywhere from $200 to $2000 (it's a crapshoot) more money ready at hand to propery maintain it.

They key point to avaoiding a money pit is to get a car with maintence records, preferably RECENT major ones such as clutch and timing belt. Those are the big ones, search around here for more.

If you're lucky you can get a well-maintained early 944 for about your price range, but the number of poorly maintained money-pit examples out there makes it a long shot.

If you go for it, good luck!

p.s. Skate or die!
