If you don't want to light tiki torches, they're so hard you can use a chisel but I'm sure it's not as much fun.

Van, are you drilling any small holes for grease fitting, as I see the cut spiral grooves in the bushing and are you using moly grease? We didn't use enough on the rear and have a few squeaks while easing in the pits but hey, it's a full time track car. We did welts the first time around but now all the front is Charlie Arms and spherical, the rear will get this next year; budget is shot for this year

You guys convinced me -- I ordered solid Racer's Edge ones this morning.

Anyone want to buy a set of Weltmeister bushings? New! Cheap!

Which did you order? All I see on there is the Delrin. Is that what you got?

Since you have so much practice, do you want to come up and do mine? They should be here in a couple of days . . .

No problems that I recall, as a matter of fact, we had to set the spring plate bushings in the freezer to get them installed.

As far as I remember, everything torqued to spec, and I just spent a week prepping the car for Barber, went through the manual and torqued a whole lot of stuff under the car.

The solid chassis mount bushings: http://www.racersedge-inc.com/racers...enumodelbytype

Jon, I do remember you! But I'm going to have to let you do the wrenching yourself... I don't get up to Albany much any more. I now live near Poughkkepsie. I hope my pictures help, though -- that's why I posted them!

Thanks Van, I thought you were talking about spring plate bushings, but then it dawned up me that those were the Elephant Racing ones that you were using.

Indeed. I did find that Elephant Racing was a little off on their measurement on where to drill the hole so it intersects with the groove on the inside -- I used a caliper to measure it exactly. Also, the grease nipples included with the kit have an M5x1.00 thread, which seem pretty rare -- even McMaster Carr doesn't have that size. So I took a quick trip to the hardware store and found grease fittings that were M6x1.00 for 50 cents each, since I had that size tap.

I did not have any problems with the Welts not torquing down like Jim did. They have worked fine for the past couple of years, although they started squeaking towards the end of last season.

An update: while waiting for the Racer's Edge solid bushings to replace the Weltmeister ones, I did a dry assembly and found the grease nipples collide with the nuts that hold the spring plate together (one is an eccentric that can be used to fine tune ride height -- the other is just a pinch bolt). (I checked, and the grease nipples I used are the same size as the ones supplied by Elephant Racing)

Anyhow, this clearly is sub-optimal. My first thought was to install that bolt the other direction, because the head is pretty flat and will probably clear. However, with both my impact wrench and my big breaker bar, I was totally unable to budge that nut.

So I ended up executing my second solution -- moving the grease nipples. I will use little set screws with some loctite to plug the first set of holes.

Interesting. Does ER supply the elbows with the nipples now? This pic from ER shows a simple, no-elbow fitting that looks to have plenty of clearance:

When do you think you will have a chance to try this cool new stuff out on the road?

Great thread BTW, thanks!

That picture is also in the instruction booklet, but the set had 4 angled fittings... Perhaps that was an error.

With a little luck, I'll be on the track in about 4 weeks -- assuming there's no snow at Lime Rock... Which, over the years, has been a 50-50 proposition.

Allan, looking at your blog, you're doing quite a bit to your car, too. Do you ever make it to Mosport or the Glen? Maybe I'll see you there!

Actually I would like to come out to some of the Mosport DEs this summer to watch and help (volunteer). Do you do the club racing as well?

Thanks for looking at the blog!
