Default inlet manifold

Has anyone had there Inlet manifold opened out, reground etc,

I know that the better an engine breathes the better it works,

any HP gains, also any probs or work then needed on either the throttle body/cylinder head

On a stock car the throttle body and manifold can already out flow what the engine needs, the restriction you run into is the AFM. If you can figure out how to get the AFM to flow better then you can open everything else up.

thankxs,
so what would be the point of polishing/porting the inlet manifold,
as some people have done ?

If you wan't some noticeable boost in performance and driveability, you have to got to ITB/standalone EMS route. That won't make your car a V8, but improves the response and hp to some extent.

Haven't really seen anybody do that with these cars, it's pretty widely agreed that without opening up the flow restriction of the AFM anything you do to the intake is pretty much useless.

The spec on one 44 is given as

Inlet manifold opened out, blended, matched to throttle body and cylinder head, inlet air temperature sensor installed, powder coated. Throttle body flowed and fitted with up rated seals. Custom hard pipes with charge air temperature sensors, powder coated.

That description sounds like it's from a turbo which is forced induction, completely different story there but the barn door AFM is still a huge restriction for those motors too. There are guys out there that just by changing from AFM to MAF gain 50+HP on a forced induction system.

Probably only at 30 psi of boost though..., the MAF couldnt pick you up more than a couple hp at lower boosts, and maybe lower spool times/improve fuel economy. Thats what I would think at least..?

yes,

However, I thought the prinicple is still the same, re more air in engine.

(thinks) is this not similar idea with have an engine breathing better by having a freeflow performce exhaust ?

Yes n/a? Yes, there are gains to be made but at stock rpm's, the gains are minimal. If you increase the rpm's of the motor than the gains are worth it but, thats a whole different can of worms.
