Default I am considering a high mileage 951...

I came across an opportunity to purchase an inexpensive (1K), high mileage 951. The engine and body have a tad bit over 200K however the body is clean. No dents or accidents, some clear coat peeling and no rust.

The interior is in great shape, no rips on the seat and clean. It runs and is driveable but how long before a snapped TB, which would be my first job to tackle.

My objective would be to make it a street/track car to be driven and I would do all the wrenching myself.

opinions appreciated....

BTW off the bat i am budgeting for top end and trans rebuild.

My opinion is to jump! For 1k it is very hard to go wrong with a turbo. If anything terminal happens you will double your investment parting. If it runs now, do the water pump and timing belt and have fun. My opinion.

Indeed. Even if it takes $5k of work/parts, it's still a bargain!

It's a good deal -- but only if have the time, storage space, and wrenching ability to tackle the upkeep. If you need to send jobs out to a mechanic, then forget it....

Don't buy it!

But do send me the guy's phone number!

J/k, if you bought it today, got bored of it tomorrow, you could easily sell it for $1,500 tomorrow (covering taxes and whatnot). Good find.

This is something that if you would not like I would appreciate the lead.

See this post. https://rennlist.com/forums/924-931-944-951-968-forum/329404-should-i-consider-this-944-a.html

I am looking for something that runs and has a solid body for myself and son to work on as a hobby.

It might be a good deal if you want to part it. Otherwise, few things are more expensive than a cheap Porsche. Take the time to get it checked out before you buy.
