Default Little known fact: 924T part number on 944/951 part

Well,

I was taking off the crushed rear bumper side piece (endcap) on the project car today and noticed something I didn't know, and assumed the majority of the RL crowd might not know either... the piece isn't 944 specific, but apparently began on the 924 Turbos.

After priming the replacement piece (courtesy of Russell from 951MAX, thanks Russ), I snapped a picture for yall to see the part number:

p/n 931.505.059.00

Just today's random 944 fact that isn't useful for anything beyond self-satisfaction, annoying party conversation, and Porsche trivia.

Kevin

Here's another surprising part number- on an original front brake pad from my 951 Cup car.

Neat!

I see in your link that all the cup cars are tracked down... I haven't checked the thread out in months, so I'll have to catch up on that.

I believe the 951 uses a 931 pn clutch fork.

Every part number I've read on my 968 was either a 944 or 951 number. I guess calling the car a 968 was purely for the market.

Yup, I've seen a lot of these. But the ones that get me the most are the ones that start with 928.

I don't know. I'm used to seeing 928.xxx p/n's on these cars since they did share half of a motor with the sharks.

I was surprised to see that the bumper endcaps originally came on 931s and not 944s or 924s.

That 959 stamping on the brake pad is sweet!

I think the funniest thing about the bumper end cap part # is that the 931 never ever used anything like that yet the part carries a 931 number...that is strange.

Maybe the part was developed for the 937 for any potential USA/Japan spec cars but then that never happened. Then the design was a carry-over for the 944 when the 944 body evolved out of the 937 design (?). I'm just spitballing here, but that would seem to make the most sense to me...........

I don't know dude, 937's all had the standard 924 euro bumper with the sides molded in as one piece. I see what you are saying though, something done in anticipation of US ugly bumpers being used on US CGT's. Thank goodness that was never put into action.

Actually, the 937 had a diferent bumper than the 924/931 euro rear bumper. Take a look at some photos. It was one piece but it stuck out as far as the US spec bumper. That's what makes me think the US spec bumper could be a design alternative to the 937 bumper for US/Japan models.

Does look like about an inch or so deeper huh.

The rockers on that first car look horrible. Is it a genuine GT or a replica?

The red one is a genuine GT that belongs to Dave Botterill in the UK.

The motor for the red one resides in his GT clone that he races. Note the same extended bumper on it (correct 937 bumper).
