Default cooling fans

My cooling fans aren't coming on. The fan switch and relay have been replaced in the last six months. I checked the fuse and the wires to the fans, but they were fine. Any suggestions on what it might be?

No power at the fans, but do I have to test it with the temp up to where the fans would come on? Sorry if I'm being electrically retarded here.

Okay, using a trick I picked up from PeteL...

Have a spare temp sensor (radiator) and disconnect the plug from the one in the radiator. Have the wire dangle from the bottom of the car and plug in the spare sensor. Use a heat source like a butane torch and heat the sensor tip up for about 30 seconds... your fans should kick on.

You can just take the plug out and jump the pins on the connector. The fans should turn on low or high speed depending which pins you jump together. This is assuming its a problem with the fan switch. If the fans work thats it. If they dont work, that brings you to the relay and fuses. If those are known to be good, i think the only thing left are the resistors behind the glove box, i dont think those have anything to do with the highspeed fans though.

Id explain it here, but Clarks-Garage does it much better...

Maybe the thermostat isn't opening up (activating thermal switch). I would give it a bleed first.

I just replaced the radiator fluid today, so I'll try bleeding it again, ninefofo. Clarks Garage was very helpful in eliminating some of the possibilities. The fans will run at high with the AC on.

They work now. I'm not sure what exactly fixed them, but thanks for all of your help.

Sounds like your A/C relays behind the glove box could be playing into your problems. anyways b/c the problem is intermittent its definetly a relay not fuse thermo switch resistor etc
