Default exhaust size differences between 2.5 and 2.7l

not too long ago the exhaust from my 2.7l 944 broke. The muffler literally cracked from exposure to the 91-west freeway, since I had been dragging it for at least 50miles before I noticed the damn thing. The little rubbers had broken off.

Anyway, I found an exhaust from an early (85) 2.5l at a local junkyard and was surprised that the bore size was relatively smaller when I compared them. The muffler itself was smaller and it did not have a silencer-device-thing on it. I no longer make other car alarms go off

Im wondering if It was just my bad eyesight or if there really is a difference in sizes. Also, whats the hp drop (if any) that i can expect??? reason is that I've noticed that my car does not pull like it pulled before with the larger exhaust and muffler......Or it could just be psychological????

any recommendations on other exhausts that are stock-like...in other words, not too loud?

thanks,
