Default 944 ABS

My red warning light and ABS light comes on while I am driving. I had leak in the passenger footwell area, so i believe the water may have shorted out my ABS unit. I know I have full braking power without it, but the red light is getting annoying. Any advice on what should do or where I can buy a new ABS unit?

Look for obvious problems before replacing it. If the ABS fuse is removed the ABS and warning light will both light. Maybe there is only a problem with a sensor. Have you checked if your ABS is functioning?

I higly doubt that water shorted out anything on your actual ABS unit. The main problems with ABS warning lights is usually wheel sensor failure. Not sure if you've ever seen the actual unit itself, so I'll post a few pics that the body shop sent me while they had the fenders off for my recent re-spray:

If your fender liners are intact and in good condition, I see it fairly difficult for enough water to get up and into the vital components of the ABS unit to cause any kind of short.

Thats the ABS hydraulic unit (pump), not the ECU (brain) - which is on the right side of the passenger footwell.

As mentioned, check all the cheap fixes first. Loose connectors, bad grounds, bad sensors etc.

Use search to find a thread on diagnosing bad sensors. sysgen had posted a procedure that was excellent with diagrams etc that helped me locate and replace a bad sensor. Good Luck!

Oops...my bad, I'm still learning. At least the pics may be helpful to someone who hasnt seen the unit before.

The ABS is not functioning at all. When I first start the car up and drive, the light will stay off for about 5 mins, but when I brake I can feel a jerk in the brake pedal and I can hear a "buzzing noise" as if the system is trying to "kick in". When the light comes on the braking is normal.
