Post Steering failure as driving

I have an 86 951 and started it the other day and found a crack in my lower radiator hose. Fixed the hose but at the same time my power steering acted up. It either works or it doesn't. You'll be driving down the road and the powering steering will stop working. It's sporadic. Can this be the pump of the rack?

Could be the pump, but also there could be issues with the belt. It could be slipping, which could have something to do with adjustment and/or the radiator fluid that leaked onto it. Have you checked the belt?

I agree, the belt probably has antifreeze on it which makes it slippery and instead of it turning the power steering pump the belt is slipping around it.
