Trunk shade repair
Hi,
I am working on fixing my trunk shade which does not retract anymore. On Clark's Garage there is an article explaining how to go about doing this. I have followed all the steps and now have the metal tube out (shade removed...metal tube alone). The article says to remove the plastic white end piece in order to access the inner spring mechanism within the metal rod. For some reason, I am unable to remove the white end pieces...I have tried everything, and it's just not coming out. I drilled the dimples as specified but yet still no luck.
One end of the rod is a flat white piece, whereas the other end has a white piece with a pin. Does it matter if I remove the side with the pin, instead of the flat side as mentioned in the article?
Any tips would be greatly appreciated. I know it's silly, but I don't want to break the rod and risk having to buy a new trunk shade.
If someone has a marron trunk shade they are looking to sell for cheap, I'd consider it.
Thanks

I went to a home depot and bought the cheapest window shade for like $11 and will use as the guts for the window shade. I selected one that has to be cut so I made it the same size as the OEM tube. I will then remove the cheap plastic window shade and double stick my Porsche sahed to the tune from the shade. I havent done this as the cold weather is here but I don't see a problem with my solution since the ends are the same.

Not an official fix, but my shade would not wind up when I first bought the car but after disconnecting it from the rear and letting it sit losely below the mounted roll it slowly wound itself back up, and after sitting wound up for a while the spring has started to get some of its tension back so it rolls up by itself all the time now.
