OEM or Replicas? Used tires arent worth anything even with 50% remaining they have very little influence on the price of a set of used wheels.
I would say that's a decent price for OEM wheels though. Replica prices have come down a long way despite people on rennlist still selling them for $900-1000 per set. You can get sets of 4 Turbo Twists, or Cups or 996 5 spokes for $579 on ebay all day long. Granted, they are much heavier. I picked up a set of OEM 16" cup 1's for $75 the other day with slight curb rash on two wheels. (But of course, exception, not the rule)
So yes, I would say $1000 for a set of OEM 17's in good condition is a fair price.

I can get 7 rims (yes seven) for 400-500 euros (apx. 500-625 us dollars)
Those rims are Audi's S2.
This means that They are all round 7x17 , 5x130
5 of them in very good condition and 2 they need service.
Were Audis cup wheels genuine Porsche wheels? I guess yes.
Would you fit those wheels on a 944 S2 or not? (the rear will have the same width as the front i.e 225 tyres all round?)
What do you think?

Mike...who would you trust on ebay? I havn't much faith in it.
Apparently, the rims are OEM...a dismantler in Ontario called www.porschapart.com is where I got the quote. Everything indoors. Very nice operation as far as I know. Its about an hour and a half away from me, so I'm going to check it out.
What does this mean my 16 inch phonies are worth then?

harrisionrick,
$1400cdn is a good deal on perfect OEM 17" cup1s.
If they are less than perfect, then $1400cdn is a fair price.
If they are perfect REPLICA 17" cups, then $1400 is a fair price.
If they are less than perfect replica Cups, then $1400 is not a good deal at all.
BTW folks, remember, this is Canada. Porsche stuff costs more up here. Some people make a living bringing Porsche stuff up here and selling it.

If they are from a '91-'92 Turbo, they will be 7s and 9s. If they are OEM, definitely jump on the 9s - those are not that common.

FWIW I was told my one of the people allowed to tech our cars before a DE that my region will not allow mille miglia wheels on the track. that means the nice 17" cup wheels with 225/255 pilot sports on my 951 are now illegal, and i have to find other wheels to DE with.
Fortunately I have a set of D90s with dunlop 9000s from the red S2 in the garage. I posted a question in the DE forum asking if 225 was enough tire for my car if it is in fact putting out about 300hp.

all tracks. they are going to start enforcing the no afteremarket wheels rule unless they are true racing wheels i am told.
I think there is more to this story than your friend told you.
I co-chair DE with 3 other guys up here in PCA-CWR, and we haven't heard anything about this from anyone... not even from our PCA-PNWR neighbours.

metrony has a box on the check sheet that says no aftermarket wheels. it has been a rule for a long time i am told. from what i gathered some of the aftermarket wheels are more likely to crack than factory wheels so they dont want them on the car. i got this from one of the people authorized to sign off on a tech sheet. i dont want to get rid of my 225/255 setup.
look at the bottom of the tech inspection form

Interesting. This is not a National PCA rule as far as I know, (such as helmet requirements) It's must be a local ruling only.
In our experience, we have not had any Mille Migla wheel failures that we know of. Mille Miglia's are extremely soft wheels, especially in comparision to forged Fuchs/SewerLids/ClubSport rims, which are more likely to crack before bending. In fact, I've had a factory Fuchs with a crack across 2 spokes. Maybe they had some bad experiences in the past.. I don't know..
Unfortunately, they run the event, and they make the rules. If no one takes issue with it, that rule will probably not change.
