Wouldn't go that route. Those are more geared to V8 muscle cars.

If you're still on the fence about the borla, I've been using the XR-1 on my daily driver ('01 GTi) for 4 years now and it's still in really good shape.

Cheers,
Chris

Think I have decided to go with Borla. found a shop locally that seemed pleasant enough o the phone. when the weather clears up going to take car over there for an estimate. Judging from his tone on the phone it sounded like it is going to be no problem. Where does one get an OEM stock tip?

I think that's the problem. Since the 944 exhaust is all welded (including the tip), you are probably going to have to find a used one from another turbo and have the tip cut off and welded on yours.

Unless someone knows another way.

Pelican has a tip here. Is that an OEM tip that should be welded on?

I want my tip to stay on. I hear they get very hot if they fall off onto the parking lot.

Yes it's very important that your tip stays on especially during auto x.

That won't work...it's just a chrome sleeve. You'll need the stock pipe for it to slip over. You might want to just find something aftermarket that you like that you can weld on. I had the Monza exhaust tip and thought it looked good and not to far off stock.

is that the one that fell off?

Does that chrome sleeve weld onto the stock pipe?

Where can I get a stock pipe?

Did the cars originally come with tips or just stock pipes?

IIRC- the OEm had the chrome sleve that was welded to the oem muffler outlet, which was also oval, and therefore hard to replicate. Let me see if i can find something that would intrest you...

Yes...but it wasn't welded on at that time...just a temporary clamp.

No...it's slips over the pipe.

Ebay. Pelican used 944 parts board.

The exhaust tip was welded to the muffler and the chrome sleeve slipped over it.

You can use the stock tip over again (if yours is in good condition) - that's what I did when I just replaced the muffler and left the piping alone. Ask them about doing that when you get the quote. It shouldn't be an issue.
