I noticed this about 5 years ago. I did the conversion from factory n/a brakes to 951 brakes. The 16" 911 Fuchs I had just bought would contact the caliper. Found out that the 15" Phone dials actually fit properly. What a waste of money, I don't even like the Fuchs all that much.

Nope. Sorry 'bout that. While they will fit over the calipers on your car, they will not work due to the offset spacing of your car. It was implied that they will work over the calipers that I discussed as long as those calipers were on a car with the proper offset for the Fuchs (any MY86 or older car). If you had widebody fenders on your late offset car they would work of course.

So are you saying the 7x16s on my 930 wont fit my 951 but the 9x16s off my 930 will?

Ive been contemplating getting my 930 fuchs redone and putting them on the 951 since they are larger, but if they dont fit, then theres no bother.
Correct, the 9" wheels will work but the 7" wheels will not. The 930 calipers have a fairly small profile and will fit under the 911 Fuchs, but the 951 calipers have a different profile and will not allow the 7" and 8" 911 wheels to fit over them. The 9" will work though, because it has a little extra material in the hub area (about 1/2 ") that shoves the petals out. The additional 1/2" that makes them 1" wider than the 8" 911 wheels is in the lip.

You could do what I did and put the 9" 930 wheels on the rear and the 8" 951 wheels on the front. This combo looks very good because it fills out the wheel wells perfectly and also gives you a nice tire size combo (225/245).

Powder coating an aluminum wheel makes it a bit weaker. It probably won't fail on you, but its something to consider.
I know that about chroming aluminum wheels, but I have never heard that about powder coating aluminum wheels. I can't understand what in that process would make them weaker. Could you cite your source on that?

Good idea.

Ok,..... now I'm REALLy confused.

What Fuchs would work on my S2 Cabbie?? I really love the look and I think a polished set would look nice on it, or... some BBS old style mesh wheels.

Are fuchs available in 17"???

No Fuchs would work on your late offset car unless you put fender extensions on it. The wheels would stick out. Well, some really narrow 6" wide Fuchs might fit because they are so small but then what's the point?

Factory Fuchs are not available in 17". There are some companies that cut out the Fuchs centers and put them into a custom 3-piece wheel set. I suppose you could get a set of these made to fit your late offset but you are looking at big money.

Lindsey racing has 3piece 17" wheels with the 16" fuchs centres.

Jeff Alton's local Vancouver company (Pac West Performance) is working on making lightweight 17 and 18" fuchs with CNC'd centres.

Tifo,

Can you post a few pics of the red fuchs on the car but with full body shots. I'm thinking I'm digging the red fuchs.

I recently checked with Lindsey Racing and they have fitted their 17" wheels on a couple of 1986 951s with 1" spacers. It seems then they would be a direct fit for the late offset cars, but when I checked earlier on a set for my 968 they said no. Confusing.

I talked to the guy that has that black wide-bodied 911 called "black beauty" that was in Excellence a year or two back (I believe Jack Olsen was his name). He had the 17" Lindsey Fuchs. There is an issue with those fitting over larger M030 or S4 calipers (probably due to the fact they use 911 Fuchs centers as donors). So to confuse the issue, there could be problems with them. I just don't know....Would love to test fit a set on my car.

Default Hey! U-30AT St Paul - Took a few liberties with your car

See before and after. Painted the inner lip of the Fuchs a matching black and lowered the car about an inch and a half. Hope you dont mind. Photoshop is great.
