New exhaust for the Callaway

So I've ordered the parts for the new custom exhaust for the Callaway. 2.5" 409SS mandrel bent down pipe (3" wouldn't clear between the firewall and the bell housing) and then 3" 409SS mandrel bent to a Borla XR1 3" in 3" out muffler. Hopefully the turbo will muffle out enough sound that this setup won't be ungodly loud but worst case scenario I'll just hack into the center section somewhere and add in a resonator. The best part of all is the cost, materials and the labor for this to be custom fabbed, welded, and installed is estimated at around $500. For those of you who don't know 944's too well the 3" catback from lindsey racing or SFR racing runs around $700-$900 and that is just the cat back. Pictures should be up in the next week or two depending on when I get the turbo off and drill out a few broken bolts and fab a new down pipe flange. After I save up the money I need for tuition next semester it'll be onto the brake upgrade, 951 4 pots up front and stock in the back for now, and then replace every single suspension bushing on the thing. With any luck I might be track ready in a year or so.

Sounds awesome! I would love to see pics when you can. I just hand 3" from aft of the turbo past the bellhousing put up along with a 6" SS Flex Coupler, DynoMax Ultraflow race muffler and 4" slash angle tip. I shoot some pics in the next couple days. This winter I would like to put new 2.5" in right off the turbo past the bellhousing. I did notice with the 951 bellhousing and lageer diameter clutch there is less room now for the exhaust and would like to heat wrap that section of it as well.
Any stats and pics of your car? Was it an original conversion or kit? I have quite a bit of info stocked up regarding these cars and their history along with compressor/surge maps, parts diagrams, etc for the IHI RHB6. Along with some info on the Microfueler (of which I still have but do not use do to the TEC2).
I am always excited to hear of another Callaway still roaming around.

This is the only picture I have of it right now but as far as I know it's an original Callaway conversion with the GTL package.

Callaway has no records for the 944 conversions and I can't get Car and Driver to respond to my e-mails. I'm 99% sure that this car was featured in the November '84 issue of Car and Driver. I don't think there were too many Callways with the GTL package.

That Rocks!!
Look here for some more info:
http://cgi.ebay.com/1983-Porsche-944...QQcmdZViewItem
I bought my Callaway press article from this place too. *I can always make copies of anything I have and send it to you...Jeff that goes for you as well buddy
*
IIRC the GTL was made by a Porsche dealer (simialar to what Yenko did to the Camaro and Nova) up in the Northeast after the owner was so impressed with the lines of the 924GTP that he seen at LeMans the year prior hence he went on so far as to sell a more track orientated version of the 944 using the Callaway kit.
Does your dash still resemble the one in the ebay brochure?
Whereabouts are you located?
Here are a couple pics of my car...the one of the engine is a little older, since then some issue such as vaccum hose routing, header coating, and AOS catch can have been addressed.
Would love to see more pics and hear about the car.

My dash is almost identical to the one in the brochure except someone installed a more modern tach and some sort of gauge above the center console. I need to go outside and snap some more pictures of the car but I just haven't had time, I'll try and get it done this weekend. The way this car is set up I have a feeling that it's got some history to it, I just need to dig it up.

Thank you Keith, while the car is certainly not perfect paint wise or interior wise I do enjoy its uniqueness and of course its performance! It is a really fun car to have and tinker with! Of course like all of us I take satisfaction in all the work I have put into it and how the car progresses.
