Default Aero mirro glass removal - THANKS

I think that the Aero mirror was used on 968 models as well as the 993's, and 928 GTS's. If it is not, I apologize for the use of space!!!

Anyway, need to remove the mirror glass on the driver's side of my '94 GTS. There is the 'hole' in the bottom of the mirror, and it seems that there are 'notches' on a removal ring, similar to the late flag mirrors. Are they removed in the same manner as the flag mirrors? IF so, which way does the bottom of the screwdriver go to release the glass - toward the driver, or away from the driver? If they release the lens in a different manner, what is the technique?
THANKS for any assistance from someone who has BDDT.

Cheers,

Gary Knox

IIRC its towards the body of the car, "inward" if you are holding the mirror like it would be installed...one of mine was very easy and popped out first try, the other took about 45min of moving the thing back and forth - dont force it, once its unlocked you should be able to grab the glass with your fingers pretty easily.

From the link...

Remove the glass from the aero mirror by inserting a small flat blade screw driver into the long hole located on the bottom of the mirror housing. Use the flat blade to push the geared lock toward the car body to release the glass. Once the gear is unlocked, gently pry the mirror away from the mirror housing using your fingers. DON’T FORCE THE MIRROR GLASS. It is easily broken and very expensive to replace. If you are having to use force to pry the mirror glass off, then you have not unlocked the mirror gear properly. Failing to unlock the gear before prying the mirror glass off will result in a broken mirror glass and will most likely break the adjusting motor as well. Trust me, I’m qualified to tell you this.

On a related question....
I am trying to fix a wobbly mirror on my 951. I think the adjuster is toast, since it also doesnt' adjust.
So, I removed the locking ring. First I turned it, then it actually moved backwards so it is totally seperated from the glass assembly and sitting loose in the housing, but the glass is still stuck in there. Any advice?
I've pried as hard as I possibly can with just my fingers, and am concerned about breaking the glass, although if it comes down to it I have some spares.

Sam, 75 Ohm, and Keith,
Many THANKS for your assistance. Finally got the glass off - had to use some Kroil Penephite sprayed onto the back side where it is held to loosen up whatever was binding it. Then, with the rotating "gear" in the right position, it essentially fell off!!
Now, I need a part from a non useful late model flag mirror - see my ad in Member to Member Want ads.

Cheers, and thanks again your help was wonderful.
