Default Keys?

I'm getting some blanks so I can have a spare set made for my car. I'm going to get one with a light, so that's a no-brainer. Can I use the stock, non-lit key for my factory door alarms? I can't find a blank for the glovebox, either.

Run-o-the-mill locksmith/hardware store should be able to do this once I have the blanks, right?

Aren't the keys for the glovebox the same as the the rest of the keys? I know they are on my 86 951. Unless of course you've switched locks in some parts.

Dunno. It has a Porsche crest, but it seems like it's got less teeth than my other two. Worst-case? Guess if it doesn't fit they'll have something that works.

The keys are steel I believe, so you may have trouble finding a locksmith to cut them for you. You shouldn't have trouble finding a locksmith to do it though.

yes you should have one key for the car and doors(Lighted or not) and if you have the factory keyed alarm that has another key. and that it. (Not including the wheel lock Key)

What year is your car? On my 86 one key fits all but my old 83 had a different key for the glove box and alarm than the doors/ignition.

85/1. I have three keys - alarm, ignition/doors, and glovebox.

Your 83 has an alarm? Mine doesn't. Separate key for the glovebox though

I had my steel key cut at Wall-Mart. It is the same as a VW blank. The guy didn't know it was steel, so he just cut it. I had went to several locksmiths that wouldn't cut it. They said the steel blank would dull thier cutting wheels.

I JUST got done doing this. I made one with the lit head and one of the cheaper ones with just the round black head with the porsche crest stamped into it. A hardware store said they could do it and destroyed the non-lit one, and a locksmith did the lit one by hand (hour and a half) for SIXTY DOLLARS and one side doesn't work real great in the ignition. No problems with the door locks/alarms though.

Wow, sounds like a nightmare. This seems harder then it should be.
