I had an 85.5 NA that I purchased with the almost the same ding, sold it to a buddy of mine 10-11 years ago, He still has it with the nose panel ding

Sounds like this is a common nose panel upgrade. Actually, last year, my bro-in-law dropped one of those gorilla ramp thingies on the nose of my car as well - just about at the same spot too!

Fortunately, George B @ 944-ecology saved the say - he gave me the nose panel off his turbo!

A good dent guy could massage that ding out for less than $100 bucks.

The problem is getting to the underneath side of the panel - there's a second panel about an inch below it that's welded to the unit. It requires a bit more than taking it off and pushing it out.

I sold my non-running 944S with a nice nipple in the hood from an exploded spark plug for $2500.

Perhaps it's not a dent, but rather a vortex generator to aid in aerodynamic efficiency. Seriously, i bet you could get it pretty close with one of those paintless dent removal kits that you see advertised from time to time.

You may be on to something. I've noticed that the windshield wipers on my nose dinged '86 are considerably more efficient than those on the aerodynamically smoother '88.

Call me crazy... but I'd just work it out with an orbital and some bondo... it would be a pain to massage out, and not all that big to justify buying a new one. I'd bondo it and get a paint-buddy to shoot it.
