Burning Brakes
since I left my car at home I had to scrounge up some pics from my computer here at college, I have a 1987 944S and it has the 16 ventiler side markings, and the S badging on the rear, other than that all I notice is that the phone dials on my S stick out beyond the rim, and the one in the picture does not, therefore I conclude that I have no idea whether this car is an S or not. Until we know more info we cannot be sure.

I spoke to the owner this week. The car is a '87 S with 44.5K miles, no hit, no paintwork car. He wants $12.5K for the car.
I may arrange to go see it this weekend if my schedule remains clear.
Anyone have an idea of what this baby is worth? I figure it probably could use a timing belt change and perhaps a clutch (Old rubber parts?), but I don't know much about 944s.
I did a KBB lookup and private party was around $6.8K if I remember correctly.

This guy has lost his walnut if he thinks hes going to get anything near $12,500. Maybe he has bad debt to Vegas bookie lynchman he needs to pay off.
If this is an 18 inch car (looks mint from 18 inches away), Id say $6000 would be fair considering the low mileage. Like Top 5% car. If its a good but not great car, more like $4500.

somehow the value between 36k and 44K takes a big hit. If all is perfect and it just needs belts and will eventually need a clutch I say 7k is the ballpark figure. add say 500 for belts, and 1500 for clutch and the 7 becomes 9, add tires if they are dry rotted and you have 9.5. the other rubber arguments dont hold water IMHO unless it is the fuel lines.
As a comparable sale, a board member just sold an 87 S with about 160K miles, probably paintwork, a spun rod bearing and new konis all around for $2500.

No way is that car worth that much. You are into very nice 951, pristine S2, or pretty nice 968 territory with that price. That guy is dreaming.
I, along with others here would love to see the value of these cars creep up more (well, at least for unmolested examples. Molested bastard cars like mine will always be in a sortof pricing "bermuda triangle" regardless of the market I think). But the market just won't support that price for an 87S in that mileage and condition right now.

I saw and drove the car today. It was very nice, with a couple of paint nicks on the nose, a few minor issues on the airdam/front bumper and that was about it. The tires were a bit dried out too.
Overall a very nice car that wasn't perfect, but in great shape for a 20 year old car.
I ducked the pricing issue for now - I think there should be a premium for a 1-owner car. Not a $5K premium, but some sort of premium.
