You mean on the trim on the fenders? It looks like it may say that if you squint really hardlike at the last two pics. Better photos would be nice, of course.

I don't believe all the cars had the 16v badges. My 87 S didn't have the badges, only the S badge on the back.

I don't think it is an 86, it has late offset phonies on it.
I'm like Tom, phone dials all look alike to me

Are we certain it isn't an S, and they just have the model year wrong?
I defer to the masters could've just been a typo, too. Pretty strange that someone would get the model year of their own car wrong... not that it hasn't happened before

I thought the 16 ventilier on the side moulding was only on the S2. I think the S and NA are visually identical.

I'm pretty sure I have seen some S's with the badge, they were probably 88's or something.

Every 944S I have seen has had the 16V molding. I'm certainly no expert, however.

perhaps a few S owners or past owners will chime in. I do know that it is on the S2.
my earlier statement was incorrect. It should have started with other than the S under the rear spoiler the ....

The badging was actually a factory option, IIRC.

For some strange reason in my head I think it is an 87S bought end of year '86.
I am will see if the owner has the original window sticker and options list.

Cheers,

That can't be an 86, it's clear that the wheels are not early offset. It's probably an 87 944S, in very condition.

Eitherway, a photo of the engine would be much more conclusive. You can add and remove badging easily, but no one is going to swap a 944S engine for a typical 944 engine.

Not saying it happened with this car, but you'd be amazed at the difficulty of finding (and price of, when you do) a good, used head for an S. There are actually quite a few floating around out there with NA mills after any number of things happened and the owner was confronted with spending the same amount on a replacement head as an entire 8v engine.

This car has Ventiler mouldings, most S's I have seen have them unless they were removed, also has 7x15 wheels all around which was standard on the S model. The S was introduced in August 86 but I seem to remember reading that some models were sold before the model year change as 86 models. Can't back that up with a reference though. They may have bought it in late 86.

I say it is a legit S from those photos and description of owners who don't sound like they would add the S badging. VIN and engine photo would confirm.

Sure wish my paint looked like that
