well was driving the porsche home the other day and was driving fine. Came up to a light and stop then took off and the rear end started clunking and got worse the faster i went. When the clutch is engage the sound goes away but not completely and when u give it gas harder when in gear it gets really loud. So my question "is it my cv joints". I am assuming yes to the sympotoms. Next question where is the cheaper place and shoudl i buy the whole axle alrady put together. Thanks in advance.

Check the CV joint bolts, they tend to back out if you don't lock tite them. With the car in neutral when you rev the motor do you hear clunking? How about just rolling down the street?

Definitely sounds like CV joints to me. I've had them get dry in two of my cars and have just repacked the bearings and didn't have any more problems the rest of the time I had the cars. I would take them off and check for pitting. If there isn't any, I don't see a reason to buy new ones when a tube of Swepco is a lot cheaper. Good luck.

well jacked the car up today and started it up and put it in gear to watch the wheels move. What seems weird is that one wheel was turning freely in the right direction and the other wheel would hestitate and go the same direction as well. Like sometimes it would turn then hestitate and not want to turn then turn a little bit.

If you have an open differential that's pretty normal. Now if you have LSD then something is wrong.

Torque tube bearings? Transaxle impending doom? Sounds like what happened to me. If it start sounding like straight cut gears you're in real trouble.

Sounds like your ring and pinion. The wheel spins so your CV is still connected. I think you may be looking at another transmission.

well after talking to jason at paragon it doesn't seem like a cv joint anymore after i told him the symptoms so i guess all i can do is pull the cv joints and then pull the transmission. This sucks i have bad luck with 944's

well an update. I disconnected the cv joints and started the car. The transmission actually turns even in neutrual and does the same when in gear? Is this normal because there is no resistance from the cv joints? Well either way when everything is disconnected and i started it up the transmission make a knocking sound so i am unsure what to do now. The transmission will be pulled tomorrow and i guess take it to a transmission guy even though don't know what the problem is with it or know who to take it to.
