Default ES100 vs. ZRi

How does the grip of the Fuzion ZRi compare to that of the ES100?

NOTE: These are for my Jetta in a 225/40 18.

I had parada Spec 2's on the car for and long time and they are extremely loud, but grip like crazy. Now I went with a P-Zero Nero's on the fronts and HATE them. They just aren't as grippy and aren't near as good in wet. They just spin way too easy. If I hadn't got a set of 4 with 75% tread for $150 I'd have been pissed to get crap for what they charge for them new.

Now, I'm looking at the Fuzion or the ES100. The Fuzion has an A grip rating, but wears longer than the ES100 from what I see at the Tirerack ratings charts. What about grip? From experience, do they last long? How's the grip really? This car was good with the Parada's on it, just noisy. The car will just light up the fronts if I get on it with the P-zeros and I don't want that. I don't care too much about noise, I just want maximum grip that lasts at a low price.

Yes, this is my daily driver.

The es100s aren't that great in wet weather, and are loud as hell.

Trust me, the Parada is a lot louder than the ES100. I have the ES100's on the 944 and they are OK.

I never had the es100 but did have the Fuzions. Great tire for the price. It wore very well and I never had a grip problem on hte street.

Some here even used them for DE and AutoX with good success. Maybe they will chime in.

I used Fuzion ZRi 215/45/17's on my '01 GTi for a DE at California Speedway. It rained most of the weekend, but I was impressed by the wet and dry traction. I run 225/45/17 Toyo T1-S's on the street and the fuzions are comparable in grip, but definetely a little louder. Then again I was running them at much higher PSI than I do on the street. My brother ran ES100's on his Jetta ('93 2.0L) and I didn't like them much; I think he wore them down to the wear bars in about 17,000 miles or so.

I've been searching on TireRack, and I'm looking at the General Exclaim UHP tire now too. It's got a real high wear rating and people seem to like them. Considering they have a wear rating of 380, it can't be that bad of a tire for $79. The only thing said bad about them is the sidewall is soft.

From my experience with them, they are one of the top wet-handlers in their category, and will never hint at hydroplaning at nearly any speed (granted you don't take them through 4" puddles at 80mph or something) until they are at the tail end of their life.

I've used my ZRis for over 10k miles, and they still have some days left on them. I autocrossed them once; they did impressibly well for 5 runs. They have great traction, as they share much technology with the Pole Position models from Bridgestone, and I place them marginally above what ES100s have to offer in that respect.

I really recommend them, but order one size larger than you normally should, as their tread profiles are pretty narrow. YMMV

my 951 came with ES100's on it, which were pretty good.............but *really* noisy.

if you're looking for a good performance, quiet tire, the Falken FK451's are really nice. i had them for a while, until my rears died out from really really ****ty shocks.

i've got Fuzions on the rears now, and they're almost as quiet as the falkens, grip about as well, and undercut them in cost by a good amount.

As mentioned above, the General UHP is a good low-cost alternative. A buddy of mine has them on his M3 (he had ZRIs prior) and is happy with them.

You will get NO traction on ice or snow with the ZR1's! I believe they are summer only tires.

I have the original wheels with POS tires on them if it snows (we get maybe 1 day a year of snow).

I just want something that lasts. The Paradas lasted and were a good tire (the backs have almost 30K on them and they look new but it is FWD). The fronts always get torn up and the P-zeros just can't handle the torque when I step on it. I figure the General lasts and if I don't like it, I'm only out $79

The Fuzion doesn't last as long, and the thing that gets me is the grip rating is lower on them...

I had ES 100s on my 944 and did a DE and a couple of autocrosses. They were pretty good; however, if you go with Yokos I suggest the Advan Neova AD07. I replaced a set of Contis on the 996 with the AD07 and wow. These tires are great in both wet and dry...very sticky. They are soft so wear may not be the best, also, they can not be used/stored in cold climates, something about the compound.

I now run the Fuzion ZR1 on 3 cars after great results on the 951. They are one of the best wet grip tires I've owned; I have never hydroplaned yet. I have 10K on the Q45 with minimal wear and that beast is hard on tires.

I had the ES-100 on the 83 and eat up a set in less than 10K city driving and they sang like a fat lady on concrete. They had slightly better dry traction than the Fuzion when new but performance went down hill fast from 6K on. I swore I would never buy them again.

Have you DE'd these tires? The reason I have is my 911 currently has Hankook Ventus Z212whatevers (can't remember the full name). They are an incredible dry tire on the track, and don't get greasy. Great bang for the buck. But, in the rain, they never hydroplaned, and street driving is fine, but were incredibly slick on the track in wet conditions. Just wondering if any other budget tires had better wet track driving. A friend has Kuhmo MX's and he was the same way. Others were ok. A friend in Toyo T1-R does very well in the dry and wet, but maybe ~$40 more/tire.
