thanks everyone for the suppport. im super excited and just cant wait for bootcamp. i can never seem to motivate myself to work out or do anything. so im looking forward to this. ive got 20 months of school ahead of me on top of basic training before i get sent out to wherever im going.
My advice is to at least start walking several miles every day. Boot camp is all about marching everywere you go.... from the dawn to dusk.

Best of luck.

Run today. Run tomorrow. And run some more after that. I took the ASVAB for the Marines out of H.S., but ended up going U.S.A.F. Reserves after college. You'll never be the same, and that's a good thing. Good luck.

hey man, good luck! I'm a "hollywood" marine, but its all the same! If ya have any questions, fell free to hit me up. I was origionally supposed to be enlisted aircrew (AJ), but the swim quals kicked my butt. I ended up flying UAVs and now I'm on my second tour in Iraq! Everyone says it, and its true, its a blast! I came in right out of high school and haven't looked back. I take it you had to sign a 5 yr contract? I've got a little under 2 left on my current contract, and I might keep it up Good luck to you! Bootcamp was awesome! Take it easy!

remember Ashton, a Marine - from the Commendant on down - is first and foremost - a rifleman.
Good luck and be safe. Godspeed.

ok. well i have 4 days before i leave and i get a call from my recruiter that i cant be aircrew cause they couldn't get the position open. so instead of letting me know and go in in february when the job WAS open they just gave it to someone else.

and my next two jobs that i had after that, aircraft mechanics and some construction thing i don't remember saying, are also apparently not available.

how ****ing convenient.

so now they are telling me that this could be a good thing because the recruiters can only give me a job category, not the actualy job.

they can give me aircrew, not huey crewchief.

but the senior drill instructor at bootcamp can actually tell me what individual jobs are open and can get me them. so I guess im just going to hope that some aircrew fool cant make it through boot camp and ill steal his job...

Is this a good idea...

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Only in the army can YOU pick your actual slot. Don't do it. you'll wind up in infantry.

if someone tells you, that you can change while you are in boot camp, THEY ARE LYING!!!!!!!!!!!

I am in the army. I have friends in the navy and marines. the only thing you can actually pick in the marines IS infantry.

ok....so someone doesnt know what they are talking about.

i mentioned they wouldnt just stick me in infantry would they? he looked like i had hurt him or something.
he said my asvab score was too high for that. they wouldnt waste me on something like that...

they specifically told me i would be able to choose from all the jobs...
