Failed Inspection - Now what?

well you may have issues with the car that need sorting out, but if you're looking for a quick fix, a lot of shops (not going to name names here, but ask around) will do a "stevie wonder" inspection, particularly if you grease the proverbial wheels, so you could do that and then fix whatever issues your car has at your leisure

Car seems to be running well. As far as gas mileage, I haven't checked since I got it home but on the trip from Ohio to New York I think I got about 27 mpg. My first 944 failed and all i did was put in NGK plugs and it passed.
I didn't get the car real hot before I brough it in however, after it failed the mechanic said he ran it at about 60mph for a few minutes before he did the test again.
Dan - What is e-check? Never heard of it.

Ok. If starting with spark plugs and O2 sensor what should I buy? I used to use NGK on my other 2 944s. Actually I remember my 83 didn't pass and I changed plugs and it did. Don't remember the test values though. How about O2 sensor?Replaced in my 944S and if I remember correctly there was a Bosch replacement for a lot less $.

Did the shop you took it to let your car sit for a long time before running emissions? If so, find another emissions station that will do it while you wait so you don't have to drop the car off and have it cool down for 4 hours before they put it on the sniffer...

With a late O2 sensor, test it to make sure the output voltage is rising and falling. Unfortunately, the lates are expensive.
Run the tank down to an 1/8th, add methanol, and leave the car running when you get to the inspection station.
Done deal.

Test you're O2 sensor first as per Clark's, I've been down this path with both my cars.
Local building center should have meth in the paint section. I've also used Kragen's "Guaranteed To Pass" (G2P) and had better numbers than the test two years earlier.
Be sure to get the car hot and keep her running while waiting for your test, I did mine at a place that I knew would be dead right after lunch.

I'm going to ask a stupid question here.
Judging from the pictures of your car, the exhaust doesn't look stock (if I remember correctly). Are you sure you have a CAT and not a test pipe under there? Did you or anyone take a look?

Spoke to the PO's mechanic. He said what I should do is take the vacuum hose off the FPR. He said when the turbo kicks in more fuel is used. By dosconnecting the vac hose it stops the extra fuel and will bring the levels down.
I looked at the PO's records. The spark plugs haven't been changed in about 10,000 miles and I do not see any record of the O2 sensor being changed. If I replaced the sensor and the plugs what are my chances that it would fix my problem?

Didn't even think of taking the old sticker off. Although it was hard enough to get the wife to agree to a Turbo S. She bought the "Everone said I should get a Turbo" line but she knows they didn't say "S"!!!!!
That would have been a good idea.
