Replacing light bulbs in 85/1 944 dash
I have the wrong schematics (85/2, since that's what my brother has) and am not sure how to get to the bulbs. Is it four screws or more...and where are they?

I couldn't remove the entire guage cluster because my dash had a overlay cap that kept it from comming out, but I was able to pop the individual guages out. It was pretty easy - just reach around behind the guages and push them out.
You will need to pull the steering wheel (not hard to do - just give the horn pad a sharp yank and it pops right off)
Start with the combo guage on the left. Once you push it out, gently pry the connector off and the other wires off. You can then work at disconnecting the speedometer cable from the hole on the left. You may need to wiggle a pair of pliers in there.
The bulb holders are just pushed into the back of the guages. Once you remove the holders, you can replace the bulbs.
You can't really screw anything up when you put it back together - each of the connectors is unique.
The original bulbs are 1.2 watt, but I replaced all of them with 2.1 watts for a little more brightness. It didn't seem to cause any problems, but it does put a little more load on the dimmer resistor.
