Question 968 6 speed Transmission Information

Is anyone here knowledgeble on 968 transmissions. I ask this because I found one that I want to put in my 951 but it says VW/AUDI all over it. Is this correct or is this BS? The part number is 815 0 0530 10. Any information would be helpful

"found" one? That sounds a bit sketchy

But in all seriousness, that part number doesnt show up in PET.

I have bought a number of small parts off that dismantler for my 968 in the past and never had an issue. They have been breaking up a number of 968s in the past few months. It appears they get them at insurance auctions. Also oddly enough the past four that I have seen this place part out have all been cabs..

By the way when I had the transmission out of my 944S it has the Audi/VW symbols, I haven't had the transmission on the 968 yet.

Yes, they all do have the Audi VW logos, but I'm not seeing that part number...

If you're putting it in the 951 make sure you get the 968 axles too.

That bottom number 01E 301 103 B is the part number for the 968 6spd transmission case. The transmission part numbers for the 968 trans start with 01E..

Thanks Josh and Mike. I Have not committed yet, I was making sure it was the real deal.
Are the Axles the only thing I need or is this gonna get deep? What is a PET and where can I can one?

PET is the electronic parts program/catalog with part numbers and exploded diagrams. I don't know what PET stands for, though!

I got my 968 PET from my PO. I'm sure you can find it somewhere online or get it from someone here.

That is it as far as the major mechanicals. The bellhousing doesn't have the same shape as the 951 tranny, but it will bolt up fine. You will lose your speedo input though. The 968 gets info for the speedometer from the ABS. The 968 has a box to convert one of the ABS wheel signals into a signal that looks like the one from the 944/951 tranny.

Has anyone here done this swap? It looks straightforward but I thought the same about the wastegate and that took almost all day and a half.

I've never heard of a 944 or 951 with a 6-speed. But that doesn't mean nobody's done it. I have seen 968 engines in 944s with all kinds of different 944 trannies (951, 944S, 944S2, all mated to 968 engines). If a 944 tranny works with a 968 engine, then it must also work the other way around. Right?
