All the random crap around the diagnostic plug can be pulled out. Pull the large hoses running to it and to the hard line in the center of the engine bay. Put a filter on the hard line, pull everything else and delete the vacuum line.

There is a blue line that runs from the charcoal canister up through the fender well, to a vacuum switch just next to the brake res... from that vacuum switch is a vac line that runs down to the throttle body. If your follow the lines from that switch you'll see that on the firewall the line switches from hard line to the soft line... this is where Mike would have you put a small filter on it. I had thought of putting the filter in the wheel well just minus the charcoal can, but for the cleanest engine bay, Mike has the answer.

The diag port is a small black circular port mounted on the same piece of metal, at least it was in my 87.

It absorbs the gas fumes so it wont be vented into the enviroment.

Well first thing to do (especially for a race car) is replace all those crappy hard plastic vacuum lines, and replace them with Lindsey Racing silicone hoses.

I just stuck a cheapy breather filter (ebay) on the same exposed hose you show in your picture Spaze. I'm sure it's not the best method, but it's one less thing to do at this stage in the game. When I yank the motor out down the line, I'll see about deleting unnecessary vacuum lines, etc.

Just remove the large black diaghram thing and also the silver one. Remove the lines they are connected to. One will run to the intake, plug that one. Then follow the one line that goes along the fire wall. It will run all the way to almost where the DME harness goes into the car. Then it will turn down and go directly to under the car. It will follow under the car with the fuel lines and go all the way back to the tank. I removed the entire thing, cut it back at the tank, and put a filter on it back there. Done.

Hey;

The line that runs down under the floor is the vent for the fuel tank. 9Fitty1 has a better idea. Would you want gas fumes venting under the hood? If you have that line open under the fender well, those fumes will come right in the drivers window when you're on track.
