Default Battery replacement

So one day after reading Tom's new battery brighter lights post my battery died. It was -1 this morning, but the car started fine with a jump. Any suggestions on a replacement battery? I was thinking a Die Hard, is an optima worth it?

i looked at optimas and was told there was no application for the 951.
it would sit too tall and the connections were an issue and no foot to secure it.

i got a 41 series from carquest and it really depends on your personal preference for a name brand.

i have always had great success with optima batteries. i plan on getting a lightweight battery from holley. do a search, there were a few discussions about optima s in 944s a while back.

i did a search prior to calling an optima dealer.

so you don't have any issues of height, security, is it level or sitting at a tilt or sidemount cable issues?

i bought the 700CCA battery from advance auto parts. the die hard i took out was also 700CCA. The die hard had the same vent tube in a little ziplock, and had the same international flags running around the top.

the battery from advance was $75 +-$2. I think it is more from sears. i think it comes with a two or three year replacement if bad then pro rated for 84 months.

bottom line, save a few bucks and get it from advance if one is near you.

Just mount it (Optima) on its side. Will post pics if you need. Otherwise, you will short it out (ask me how I know).

"mount on it's side"???? perhaps because it's too tall, sounds like an issue.

please post a pic and how it's secured.

Optima batteries can hang upside down.

Ok, thanks for the replies. It's 5 degrees here so I'm not going to mess around with a special bracket or something strange right now. I tried to search optima posts and got really conflicting answers. It sounds like I cannot just put it in and use the stock bracket am I right here? However some posts stated that the stock bracket did work somehow with some stuff that came with the optima. Also I still don't know what optima to get if I do go for one. It does sound like it needs to be mounted on its side. If I can just throw in an optima without much extra effort I'm tempted, but otherwise its going to be the die hard I think, I am not near an advance auto parts, but thank you for the suggestion. Thanks for the posts guys I'm sure batteries have been covered before but I didn't find what I was looking for in searching and I want to take care of this today, I just got my car back on the road after more than a year and I'm not letting it sit any longer. On the plus side my 1987 Bimmer with 173k that I hadn't driven in a week started like a champ so I'm not totally SOL.

The stock bracket works some. It wiggles and I wouldn't use it for racing, but it is in there pretty good. Automotion has a special bracket but as I remember, it was pricey.

The sarcasm is flattering. If you have something to say, not sure what it is however, say it like a man instead of sniffing from behind.

I am using an Interstate. I think it is MTP-91. Was $105 CDN from a local mom and pop so I imagine in real dollars at a discount store it might not be more than the Sears.

On one of my previous 944s the battery I bought it with was a 911 battery. Way too tall. I replaced it before it arced itself to my hood
