Default 86 944 instrument cluster lights problem

Hi guys:
Once again the lights in my instrument pod have gone out. I replaced the blubs in July 2005, and by December 2005, two had gone out. Replaced them again, and within a few months, two of them went out again. Well, Sunday night they were all out and have been since. Any ideas on trouble shooting would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Do other dimmer-controlled dash lights go out too, or just the instruments? When you adjust the dimmer, does anything anywhere get lighter or darker? If it's all black, then I'd check that dimmer. If the rest of the dash dims and brightens, then I'd bet the problem is in the foil circuit or connector or harness going to the instrument cluster.

Tom:
The dimmer was working prior to all the lights going out. The rest of the dash lights work, even the light behind the defrost picture in the middle at the top of the center vents. Only the gauge cluster lights are out.

sounds like a problem with the circut behind the gauges.
