Question To Alpine White Paint Owners......

I feel pretty good about my 951's original alpine white paint until I park next to a new white car and then mine looks very dull and off white almost. Does anyone else's car seem this way? I think it looks great by itself, its just not so bright looking when its next to something newer. I know the paint isn't going to be as bright as when it was new but do any of you alpine owners feel the same way about your paint? Any particular products that might brighten it up a bit?

Alpine White IS off-white! You can't compare it to a pure white car. It's much more antique-white looking next to a white-white car.

Looks great by itself though, right!?

Yup! it's off-white. The alpine is almost a ceramic white color. I love it though!

I've worked in a detailing shop for a couple of years part time. For white cars, a cut polish with 3M Perfect-It III Rubbing Compound works great. You have to follow that with either the Perfect-It III Machine Glaze or Imperial Hand Glaze to get rid of any swirl marks that the cut polish left. Other brands (ie. Meguiars, Mothers, etc.) are not nearly as effective as the 3M polishes, although they are much cheaper.

We've had all kinds of really nice looking white cars come in where we didn't think that they even needed a detail, but after a polish they all looked much better

When I got my 968 mirrors and door handles painted I asked the shop about the alpine white paint recipe. It includes black pigment.

My old Alpine White Jetta (I'm assuming the same paint) would quickly get dingy and even stained a lot around the bumpers and black trim! I ended up having to do that Maguiers 3-step treatment to it once or twice a year to keep it looking nice.

Yep...off white. Especially when parked next to any other white car.

Like everyone else says, its off white, and a good color. My first car was an alpine white 944 that I named snow white

Park next to black cars - yours will always look clean.

+ Whatever - it's off white. The 924S has the Alpine White. I've always thought of it as dirty snow!

Funny story.

Dad visited a while back and remarked that the fender and spoiler that I replaced a year ago were painted the wrong color, this is the car he picked up in Stuttgart. I finally convinced him by pointing out that the new stock stonegards are AW, and they matched the new paint perfectly.

The diff between new paint and 23yo high altitude bleached AW is striking.
