The late ones have the fuel pump inside a rubber/foam casing under the plastic cover. A little harder to see, but it does keep the noise down.

Lightbulb Learn Something New Every Day

Slightly OT, but I was intrigued by this: "On the later cars (after '85.5, new style dash) even when the fan switch is on the off position, the fan runs on a slow speed.

That is indeed the case with my '86 NA, and I elected to ignore the "bug" because it wasn't a big deal and the car is being race prepped. I had no idea this was a feature! Thanks for the info.

Hey, JPK and all-

It's an '88 na. Got my belt kit today, so we'll be putting the front end of the engine together this week. We'll investigate the fuel pump snafu this weekend.

I've been a mechanic for years, it'll be just a matter of getting comfy with the 944.
Sure appreciate everyone's tips, they've been a quick jump start.

I'll relay our outcome on this fuel pump deal on this post once it's behind us.

Thanks,

Rootsgroup
