Default Head bolt broke. NEED HELP

The number 3 head bolt broke, and started leaking antifreeze in to the cylinder. I have it all tore down but the bolt is broke off about a inch to a inch and a half below the block. How am I going to get the bolt out? Dont know if there is a special tool made for this app, other than just a drill bit and a ez out.
Any help would be great.

Thanks in advance Marty Myers

Ugh.....good luck with the ez-out, but mot times the tool that removes things like that is called a machine shop.

There are several threads on here about things people have tried. One machine shop that couldn't get a bolt out ended up putting a stud in its place if I recall the post.

Search around....you'll find some information, but you probably need to find a good machine shop.

Like Daryl said - there's been a few threads about this. The head studs are held in the block using loctite, you need to heat the block to break down the loctite and make it easier to remove. The other thing you need to do is drill a hole through the center of the broken stud for the easy out. You can either make a jig to hold the drill, or make a bushing. There's no way you'll be able to drill it by hand.

One thread mentioned a problem getting ahold of an extractor that is that deep in the block, and that a special extractor might be required. Good luck, and do search and read the older threads.

If the stud snapped below the deck, I personally would not even try shade tree solutions like EZ outs. Getting a good stud out of a block is hard enough due to the loctite and corrosion. An EZ out is almost sure to snap off in the bolt, making it only that much harder to remove. Now if you have room to weld something to the stub, then maybe...

I'd find a machine shop that can do EDM extraction with the motor still in the car, such as:

Worst case, a good shop can install a timesert in the bore after drilling out the stud.

Are you talking about one of the two allen head bolts in the front, or the actual stud for the cylinder head??
