Aside from the early 944, that had a lower compression rating in the US version, it was my understanding that all the subsequent 944 engines had identical power outputs, both in the Euro and US version?
My memory fails me but I read somewhere that the actual difference in published power ratings was between the SAE form of measuring power output in the US and the CEE standard in Europe.
Can anyone shed some light on this? Why is the 944S2 rated at 211 HP in Europe vs a lower rating for the US?
TIA

The quoted differences in the later cars is simply due to different units of measure.
* 1x DIN HP (a.k.a. metric HP) = 735.49875 watts
* 1x SAE HP (a.k.a. international HP) = 745.69987 watts
In the case of the 944S2, it makes the same power in the Europe (211 DIN HP) as in US (208 SAE HP).

I deduct points on my students' reports when they don't use correct units. When they ask why the hell it's so important to use proper units, I remind them that the latest Mars probe crashed because of a units confusion between centimeters and inches.
