I beg to differ. My old 944's glove box and ignition used the same key. It was an early 85. Sometimes you have to play with the key in the glovebox keyhole for it to work. Like, don't insert the key all the way. Try putting it in, and slide it in and out while trying to turn the key, eventually you'll find the spot where everything lines up and it will turn. If that doesn't work, the lock cylinder might have been changed.
